Dear Doctor,
At the outset I'd like to Wish you a Very Happy New Year and thank
you for your strong support over the years.
The last year has brought about several changes not only at SKS
Hospital, but also in the World. The Earthquake / Tsunami disaster
recently and the fire accident at Kumbakonam come to mind immediately.
I'm glad to say that SKS Hospital and our staff has been at the
forefront in sending aid and personnel in helping with the natural
calamities. I would like to place on record my gratitude to my Staff
who have volunteered their free time generously for such deserving
causes.
SKS Hospital continues in it's march forward, expanding existing
facilities and starting new departments. A new Radiology Department
has been started with the acquisition of a new Whole Body Cardiac
Multi Slice CT scanner from Siemens. It is the most advanced of
it's kind outside of Madras capable of acquiring 8 slices per second!
Trauma patients can be scanned rapidly, radiation for routine cases
is reduced and new procedures like Peripheral Angiograms, Calcium
Scoring, Cardiac CT and Dentagram (Dental CT) can be done for the
first time in Salem. We have also acquired a new Siemens 800 mA
X-Ray. This is the most powerful X-Ray in the region. The Radiology
Department is open 24 hours.
Our Nephrology Department has reached a new milestone. We have crossed
30,000 dialyses this year. With 5 machines available 24 hours, it's
the biggest dialysis unit in the region. We have also crossed 60
renal transplants since performing the first transplant in Salem.
The first open heart surgeries in Salem were performed in our new
Cardio-thoracic Department. The department functions in a tie-up
with the Cardio-thoracic Department GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore.
I would like to welcome the following new consultants into our fold.

Dr. S. Sivakumar, M.D., D.M., Consultant Neurologist
We also have started a Department of Yoga to render a wholesome
treatment and rehabilitation for the patients. In addition to our
patients, public are also get benefited by attending the Yoga and
Meditation classes. We are running two Emergency and Accident Relief
Centres to serve the accident victims on the National Highway at
Kattukottai, Attur Dt. and Valapadi, Salem Dt.
I hope I can continue to expect the strong support you have extended
to us so far.
